Who is God . . . Jealous, Jehovah, (the Eternal One), Jesus, Joy, Judge, Justification, Jehovah-Jirah (Jehovah will see to it), Jehovah-nissi (Jehova is my banner), Just

Old Testament: lawful, righteous, equally right and even, pronounced judiciously, right sentence
New Testament: equitable, innocent, holy, meet, righteous

Just: 1. guided by truth, reason, justice, and fairness
2. done or made according to principle; equitable; proper
3. based on right; lawful
4. in keeping with truth or fact; correct
7. righteous (Biblical)

Synonyms: blameless, equal, equitable, honest, honorable, lawful, nondiscriminatory, right, righteous, true, trustworthy, upright, virtuous.
Antonyms: unjust, wrong, unjustified

Text: Zephaniah 3

I. God is Just in His Laws and Commandments
  • Romans 7:12 "wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good."
  • Revelation 15:3 "...just and true are thy ways, thou king of saints."
II. God is Just in His Judgments
  • Nehemiah 9:33 "Howbeit thou art just in all that is brought upon us; for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly."
  • Zephaniah 3:5 "The just LORD is in the midst thereof; he will do no iniquity:..."
  • John 5:30 "...my judgement are just, because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me."
III. God is Just in His Salvation and Rewards
  • Zechariah 9:9 "...he is just, and having salvation;..."
  • I John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

IV. God Requires Men to be Just
  • Leviticus 19:36 just balances and just weights.
  • Deuteronomy 16:18 judge the people with just judgments.
  • II Samuel 23:3 He that ruleth over men must be just.
  • Proverbs 11:1 a just weight is His delight
  • Proverbs 16:11 a just weight and balance
  • Deuteronomy 16:20 that which is altogether just shalt thou follow.

Challenge:

  1. Realize that God is just in everything He says and does.
  2. Look at your own life, and confess and repent.
  3. Accept God's judgments as chatisement from your Heavenly Father.
  4. Live justly as God would have you live, and watch God's blessings upon your obedience multiply.
