Seeing our Savior in the Sacrifice - The Sin Offering

Seeing our Savior in the Sacrifice - The Sin Offering

Text: Lev 4:13-21, John 9:10 (one way, for salvation)

Old Testament Offerings:

MANDATORY
Sin
Trespass

VOLUNTARY
Peace
Burnt
Meat

NEW TEST - Offerings in the Old Testament are just symbolic. They used the word, Messiah.

1. Bread and Grape juice point back at the cross.
2. Baptism (represents, that we have trusted God as our Savior)

They used the word Christ; we hear over and over that Jesus DIED for our sin.

1. The categories of people.

  • Priests 4:3
  • Whole congregation 4:13
  • Rulers 4:22
  • Commoners 4:27

2. The cause of the Sin-offerings 4:13
  • Dietary, customary, moral laws in the Old Testament.
  • Dietary and customary law went away when Jesus died at the cross.
3. The cost of the Sin-offerings 4:12, John 12:3-5
4. The correlation of the offerings.
  • The innocence of the sacrifice Isaiah 53:7, John 18:38.
  • The perfection of the sacrifice Leviticus 4:14, 1 Peter 1:9, Luke 1 (mary needed a savior), (why put her on a pedestal when she also needed a savior)
  • Transfer of guilt Leviticus 4:15, Isaiah 53:6; everyone's sin was put on Jesus on the cross, 2 Cor 5:21.
  • Blood placed on the horns of the altar 4:18, Psalms 118:27.
  • Blood poured out at the base of the altar 4:18, John 19:25.
  • The cleansing of the sin offering (purification 4:17)
  • Blood in the Bible is symbolic of life, Heb 9:22.
  • Atonement 4:20, to eliminate evil God will have eliminated everyone because we are all evil; Romans 6:23, Romans 5:9, Romans 10:4.
  • Believe that he lived then died on the cross for your sin, ask today for forgiveness.
God Bless,
