Bible Study-Psalms 23 (The Shepherd Psalms) PART 3

Text: Psalms 23:3

The Shepherd's Leading

  • As a Shepherd always goes ahead of his flock, so also does Jesus stay in front of those who trust and love them.
  • We must be willing to be led. (John 10:14)
  • We procure special blessings for believing although we see him not.
  • We need the grace to wait to be led. God is all-powerful but he does not overrule our will. We can know the will of God for our lives. (Lam 3:25, Psal 37:7, Psal 59:9, Isa 30:18, Isa 40:31, Psal 62:5)
-Leading us in Gods business: (Psa 32:8, Deut 32:11-12, Psa 139:9-10)

-Jesus can lead us by still waters but sometimes also through foaming torrent, up the stony mountain track through the valley of the shadow of death, etc. (Isa 43:2)

-God has a purpose for us: Det 8:2, Jer 29:11, Psa 40:5

-We must trust God because he leads us through the right paths.
-Christ's ways are along "Paths of righteousness" when we despair as we go through rough times, let's remember: Psal 103:14

-Path's through which God leads us: Psal 16:11, 119:35, 25:10, 31:3, 66:11, Prov 2:8-9, 4:11, Isa 2:3, 26:7, Jer 42:3

-We do not need to plead with God to lead us. He pledged to do so for his "namesake" God's name denotes his character so he guarantees to lead us in the right way.

He is:
WONDERFUL: his power will overrule everything for our highest good.
COUNSELOR: his wisdom will work all things out.
THE MIGHTY GOD: he will do nothing inconsistent with his divine integrity.
THE EVERLASTING FATHER: he loves his children.
THE PRINCE OF PEACE: he became peace for us.
