Psalm 90: The Plan B Prayer Lesson 6: The Dangerous Displeasure of God

Introduction: "Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which growth up. In the morning it flourisheth, and growth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth. For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled. Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. For all our days are passed away in thy wrath" (Psalms 90:5-9)

  1. Displeasures of God
    • Those against the Lord and His anointed (Ps 2:5)
    • Sin & Iniquity (Ps 6:1, 38:1)
    • Sin, Wickedness, & Provocation (Deut 9, Ps 95:10-11)
  2. The fear of the Lord
    • Required (Deut 10:12-20)
    • Useful
      • to perfect holiness (II Cor 7:1)
      • to serve God (Heb 12:28)
      • to work righteousness (Ps 112:1)
      • to submit one to another (Eph 5:21)
      • to pass our time of sojourning (I Pet 1:17)
    • Motivational (Heb 10:30-31)
  3. Pleasures of God (Rev 4:11)
    • Righteousness  (I Chron 29:17)
    • Hope in Mercy (Ps 147:11)
    • Living by Faith (Heb 10:38)
    • To Return and Live (Ezekiel 18:23)
    • Adoption (Eph 1:5, 9)
    • Doing His Will (Phil 2:13)
Conclusion:
Deut 3:23-29 Moses' appeal to God's displeasure. Although Moses and the Israelites did not go into the Promised Land, Moses did get to see it from afar, and the children of the "wilderness" Israelites went in to claim it. I can have peace in my disappointments when I set my heart and life to please Him, allowing Him to accomplish His work in and through me.
